Staying on Track with IRONMAN Training
An Albany Adventure
Staying Committed
I recently found myself in Albany for a conference, yet even the city’s bustling streets couldn’t shift my focus from a key mission—keeping up with my IRONMAN training. While at the hotel, I asked the front desk for walking directions to a park over a mile away. The staff seemed surprised, but for me, it wasn’t about the distance. Instead, I was searching for a place to physically and mentally recharge.
An Unexpected Discovery
As my walk began, something unexpected happened: I stumbled upon an RV show. Although it wasn’t part of the plan, sometimes the best moments come when you least expect them. Back in 2019, I pedaled across the U.S., and the idea of hitting the road again in an RV now feels like a calling. Walking through the RVs reignited memories of this country’s vast beauty
and all the incredible places left to explore.
Finding Peace in The Ramble at Crossings Park
After spending over an hour exploring the RV show, I continued my journey to Crossings Park. Immediately, the contrast was apparent. The park was open, calm, and inviting—a true sanctuary amidst the city’s noise. Families played, runners trained, couples strolled, and professionals found respite from their busy day. As I followed the path, it eventually led me past a garden and into a wooded area known as “The Ramble.” The shade provided a welcome break from the sun, and the atmosphere was filled with positive energy, a reminder of all the good in the world.
Reflecting on Purpose
The park’s 2.5-mile loop gave me the opportunity to reflect and keep moving. However, it wasn’t about burning calories or hitting a mileage goal; it was about reconnecting with the world around me. Slowing down, allowing the world to remind me of its vastness and simplicity, felt like a perfectly timed reset. This walk wasn’t just part of my training—it was a reminder of why I’m doing this IRONMAN in the first place: to live fully, embrace the journey, and appreciate everything the world has to offer.
The most meaningful experiences often happen when you least expect them. This walk in Albany was one of those moments, a reminder that the journey is more than just the miles traveled. In the end, it’s about the people you meet, the places you discover, and the peace you find along the way.
